Joan of Arc Timeline

This timeline is a compilation of the main life events of Joan of Arc. It includes her battles that she won and her trial. Dates aren't completely know about her life, but the times are in a chronological order.

I loved exploring this tool. I love how it is clear and clean so students don't get too confused. I can see this tool being used in-numerously in the future, specifically in history classes when it is important to learn when things happened and why they happened in the first place. This is a great tool to make sure students are getting all the learning they can while they can learn.

Equivalent Fractions Video with Commentary

In this video, it explains equivalent fractions. The questions included test how well students are paying attention to the video and asks questions that are about the content in the video. There are also helpful tips for when working with fractions and equivalent fractions.

Also included here is the direct link to the video.

Equivalent Fractions

Now, this tool seems cool, but I don't see how I would really use this in a classroom. As students grow, they need more ways to think, and that's a good thing. I would definitely save this for older students and longer videos to really drive home what they are learning.

Seasons Popplet

In this Mind Mappimg assignment, I decided to make a Popplet. The topic that I chose is the 4 Seasons. This is something that kids learn pretty early, in this Popplet, I have the seasons, the months that are predominaely those seasons (in the northern hemisphere), the weather that happens in that season and some general activities that go in is the seasons. It is a different way to classify the seasons.

Seasons Popplet

As I have made more Popplets, I am seeing more ways to use them in the classroom. It is nice because it can all be in one place. I would love for students tot be able to create their own and use that information to share that with others, which will help them learn it too.

StoryBird - Benny the Cat

In 2nd grade, students start to come into themselves. They are realizing, sometimes for the first time that they are a person, and that they have interests, friends, likes, and dislikes. So I made this story about a cat named Benny who looks at himself and realizes that he is a  "person" (cat), but that he is just happy being him.

Benny the Cat

Stories are the way that we used to teach our children. I think that this tool is definitely one I am going to use later because it is interactive, it has pictures and it makes sense that using this tool in the elementary classroom would be a big hit because it is exciting.

Addition and Subtraction Prezi

It is important for students (especially younger ones) to practice some of what they know in a way that is new. So this Prezi is just a review of simple one digit addition and subtraction facts.

I think that presenting this information in a quiz like form makes students think and learn, but it isn't too boring and as long as the problems change, students can do it over and over again until they nail the subject.

Book Fair Flier

Cluff County Elementary is having it's semi-annual book fair in a few weeks! Please take this flier into consideration and mark it on your calendars!

Book Fair Flier

This flier seems like a good thing to advertise a small activity with. Nothing too crazy, but eye catching.

Weather Patterns eMaze

I find it important for students to learn about weather so that when weather happens, they can be at least a little prepared for it. This eMaze teaches the basic weather patterns that are most popular.

Weather Patterns eMaze

I think that this tool is another way to get students involved in their learning process. By creating  a medium to present to the class, students are learning book smarts, but they are also learning to present, both of which are important in today's world.

Parts of Speech Infographic

Using this tool, Piktochart was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed thinking about how to format this infographic and making it interesting for students while also being informational.

Here is the LINK to the Piktochart.
Parts of Speech Infographic

Personally, I really enjoyed making this Piktochart. I thought that is was a way to present the "same old" information, but since it is laid out differently than other graphcs, that is will be more enticing to students. I also feel like this is a good idea to get outside of the same projects that have been repeated over the years, so this is a great tool for the modern classroom.

Shark! Google Slides Presentation

Please enjoy this lovely presentation about sharks. I hope you learn something!

I think that going outside of the usual learning can be very beneficial to many students. Younger students are eager to learn, but once students get older, there is definitely going to be a disconnect. I think that letting students study something that they are personally interested in is a great tool to encourage students who usually wouldn't be involved to get involved. These particular presentation isn't too hard to use, so I imagine and older student will be able to pick up on it and gain excitement to be learning about something new.

Physical Items of Joy and Answer Garden

So I got to learn how to use this awesome tool in the internet, called AnswerGarden. I asked the question: What physical items bring you joy?

I posted this to my personal social media account, and got quite the variety of answers. It was also kind of fun to try and guess what people said, based on how well I know them.

This is the link to the page, and it is quite interesting:  Answer Garden

Feel free to add to it, even though it will only be up for a few more days.

These Answer Gardens have become one of my favorite tools. I actually posted one to my personal social media accounts because I was curious to see what people had to say. I can see this being very useful in a classroom in that I could pose the question in class and have the class write their answers and type them in myself and enable the class to see their answers compared to everyone else in the class.

Harry Potter Quiz

This quiz on the Harry Potter books are a good way to see if students are reading. Often, student's don't do what they are supposed to, so having a simple quiz to check that they are doing what they are supposed to will encourage students to actually do the work because they are working toward something at the end.

Telling Time

Since telling time is a life skill that is crucial, learning to tell time on an analog clock has got to be important. This worksheet is a very simple form of applying this skill of telling time for students.

In addition, here is a fun little video to go along with the concept of telling time.

I think that having a place where students can physically think about a topic is crucial in learning. When students need to think about questions and how they are going to answer, the amount of information that is learned increases. These little worksheets can make a difference in the classroom when it is time to sit back down and focus on the task at hand.

Which Words are used to Define

This interactive graphic that I recently made is about the words that we use in the English language to define things. These words are: WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY and HOW. This graphic tells what they word is used for, in terms that a younger student may understand better.

Here is the graphic in and of itself, without the interactive elements.
This graphic is practical, the words are all displayed on a page and when looking at the interactive itself, it then defines what the function of the word question is in response to the word that it is being used to define.

The link to the interactive is above.

Below this is the interactive itself, embedded on the page.

I really like how these are so simple, and the simple interaction of having to hover the mouse over the words makes it more memorable in the brain. These are a great resource to have in the classroom!

Videos Are an Awesome Educational Tool!

This has been a super fun search to find videos that I think may be useful and engaging for my future students to watch. There are all sorts of videos that I have chosen, and they are all ones that I have watched and would have enjoyed when I was elementary school aged.

"Rhyme Time" - this video is talking about how words rhyme.

"The Number Rock" - this video outlines the different numbers in a catchy theme that children can remember.

"Numbers in the Teens" - this video talks about the makeup of numbers in the teens, they all have a 1 in them.

"The Water Cycle" - this video stars the awesome science character, Bill Nye. This explanation of the water cycle is simple but is very clear.

"Ten in the Bed" - this teaches simple subtraction, taking one from the bed until there aren't anymore in the bed.

I also found some more videos, all varying in content.

Conjunction Junction - this is "Conjunction Junction", which teaches about how to use conjunctions and what they are.
Intro To Fractions - this video is, as the title says, is a simple introduction to fractions.
Down on the Farm - Fractions - this one is also about fractions, but is a very catchy song and uses farm animals to explain fractions.
The Money Song - this video uses a song to explain money, and how they all add up.
The Rock Cycle - this is an educational video about the rock cycle.
Subtracting 2 Digit numbers - This is a simple intro to subtracting 2 digit numbers.
Adding 2 Digit Numbers - Like the video above, this video is about 2 digit number, but only it is adding them instead of subtracting them,
How Rainbows are Made - this is a cute video about how rainbows are formed.
Bill Nye - Outer Space - this is appealing to kids because it is Bill Nye, and here he is explaining a bit about Outer Space.
Vowel Sounds  - this video is about the sounds that vowels make, specifically the long ans short sounds and the difference between them.
What's the Time? - this is a video explaining the concepts behind time and a brief introduction into telling time.
The Ants Go Marching In - this video is an introduction to counting, using a commonly known song.
Flying Over Earth - this is a cool video about what it would look like to fly above the earth.
Weather Song - this is a video introducing the weather with a song.
12 Months! - this is a nice introduction into the 12 months in the year.

I love being able to use videos in the classroom! They are something that students will be able to pay attention to fairly easily, and they are learning things without realizing how much they are truly learning! What awesome times we are in!

Pinterest as an Educational Tool?!?!

I am so excited for this post! I hadn't really thought of Pinterest as an educational tool until I had to, is that bad? But in any case, I am so glad that Pinterest is there.

I love Pinterest anyway, so having to research things that are for an assignment and then in my actual teaching experience is so fun!

I decided to start off this post with a board about teaching math because math is something that needs to be spiced up sometimes to help with memory and things like that.

So here is the board with the things that I thought sounded fun, both to teach and for the students to learn from.

Teaching Math - Pinterest

I really spent quite a bit of time looking at the pins that I did pin, and made sure that the content was something that I thought I would use later, or someone else would find useful. I wasn't necessarily surprised at how many different methods and tricks there are to teaching math, but there were definitely some that I thought were ingenious. The videos made me laugh and I definitely would have enjoyed them if I was still in the beginning stages of learning math and math concepts. My aim is definitely toward the younger grades, because it is so crucial to learn those skills early.

Welcome to my Classroom Blog!

Hello!

I am Jasmine and I am currently a student at Utah Valley University and I am so excited that this blog is a thing!

So for some of my classes, I need to post things on a blog that others can look at. In addition, when I actually graduate and start teaching, I can imagine that this blog will be full of tips and tricks to make teaching easier and more fun for me and my students. So here it is!

Well here it goes!
